My Friends [Nov. 24th, 2009|12:34 am]
This post goes out to all my friends. My friends are cool people. They are all different yet they all share the quality of being awesome. High fives to all my friends. Thank you for being my friend. Each of you have made my life so awesome in a different way. I don't think I would be who I was today (personality wise) if it weren't for my friends. You have made me stronger in some spots, weaker in others (bad habits), and exposed me to new things as well.

Yay yay yay for friends. Everyone needs a friend in this world.

Taken from [info]sarith_mcgregor and I think I've tried formatting this entry a billion times and this is why I hate to write entries on LJ.

According to The Big Read, the average adult has only read 6 of the top 100 books on their list.

1) Look at the list and bold those you have read.
2) Italicize those you intend to read
3) Underline the books you LOVE.
4) Reprint this list in your own LJ so we can try and track down these people who've read 6 and force books upon them.

Beautiful Pristine List )

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHH THAT TOOK FOREVER TO REFORMAT TO CREATE THE BLANK TEMPLATE. Therefore, I am leaving this one up here all blank and pristine so whoever wants to do this can with ease and happiness.

OK Here are my answers but I don't think I'm going to read any of these for fun (HEE HEE I AM AN ENGLISH MAJOR, YO.) For fun I am going to star all the ones that I had to read for class. Last of all, who the heck came up with this list. I must say, this is a pretty dumb list.

What I've Read )of the Flies - William Golding**** (STORY TIME: I recommended "A Princess Bride" but couldn't remember if the author was William Goldman or Golding so I put Golding and was like "Where did I come up with Golding?" and also this was a very scarring book and I remember I played "Piggy" in a small re-enactment with</div>[info]tsurugi  and [info]sarith_mcgregor  and I remember Piggy always cleaned his glasses and so I cleaned my glasses a lot and got a lot of laughs and we only rehearsed the lunch before WHOO HOO...also SIMON IS JAYSUS)
50. Atonement - Ian McEwan (I wanna read it 'cause I liked the movie A LOT)
51. Life of Pi - Yann Martel**** (I began to understand a lot of the book after reading some Amazon.com reviews. After I read their analyses and interpretations I began to appreciate the book a lot more)
52. Dune - Frank Herbert (seems boring)
53. Cold Comfort Farm - Stella Gibbons (weird title, interesting)
54. Sense and Sensibility - Jane Austen**** (BOOO I HATE THIS BOOK AND I HATE ALL THE CHARACTERS they were all so annoying)
55. A Suitable Boy - Vikram Seth (ew sounds perverted in my mind)
56. The Shadow of the Wind - Carlos Ruiz Zafon (the wind ain't got a shadow! Get it?)
57. A Tale of Two Cities - Charles Dickens (#4 Charles Dickens book. Heard that the first words were because he got paid by the word so he tried to elongate it as much as possible)
58. Brave New World - Aldous Huxley (never read it though I think I should...)
59. The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time - Mark Haddon (WHAT HAPPENS TO THE DOG IN THE NIGHT TIME?! [Where the Red Fern Grows spoiler]DOES HE GET EATEN BY A MOUNTAIN LION [/Where the Red Fern Grows spoiler])
60. Love In The Time Of Cholera - Gabriel Garcia Marquez (hey that was that movie that looked boring with Ed Norton)
61. Of Mice and Men - John Steinbeck (yo John Steinbeck, how happy are you that Ernest Hemingway is nowhere on this list?)
62. Lolita - Vladimir Nabokov (I don't wanna read it 'cause it's perverted >BD)
63. The Secret History - Donna Tartt (It's not a secret anymore!!! Ho ho I love these corny jokes)
64. The Lovely Bones - Alice Sebold (YEAH SHE'S A GRADUATE OF THE UCI GRADUATE PROGRAM ZOT ZOT ZOT don't wanna read this though...maybe watch the movie...)
65. Count of Monte Cristo - Alexandre Dumas (I like the sandwiches)
66. On The Road - Jack Kerouac (this guy sounds important. I should probably read his book)
67. Jude the Obscure - Thomas Hardy (Thomas Hardy again????? Didn't know he was so "good")
68. Bridget Jones' Diary - Helen Fielding (hahahahha what a funny, funny book I liked it a lot. The sequel wasn't very good. The same sentiments goes for both movies as well)
69. Midnight's Children - Salman Rushdie (hey it's Padma Lakshimi's ex-husband)
70. Moby Dick - Herman Melville (I read the first page just so I could say I looked at it)
71. Oliver Twist- Charles Dickens (#5 Charles Dickens didn't even watch the movie "May I have some more, sir?")
72. Dracula - Bram Stoker (I watched the movie...whoaaaa Gary Oldman helloooo!!! Oh, and hey Keanu. 'Sup? I kinda wanna read the book but kinda not)
73. The Secret Garden - Frances Hodgson Burnett (seems like a depressing book. I have it though. Is it like Bridge to Terabithia?)
74. Notes From A Small Island - Bill Bryson (written by the man who sat next to the old man in the Old Man and the Sea)
75. Ulysses - James Joyce (James Joyce is boring)
76. The Bell Jar - Sylvia Plath (I didn't like her poems I don't think I'll like her writing)
77. Swallows and Amazons - Arthur Ransome (sounds exotic)
78. Germinal - Emile Zola (I'd read a book about germs, although I don't think this is what it's gonna be about)
79. Vanity Fair - William Makepeace Thackeray (hey that movie with Reese Witherspoon. I like his middle name.)
80. Possession - AS Byatt (Ooh sounds like a Lifetime movie...might have to check it out HEY IT IS A MOVIE)
81. A Christmas Carol - Charles Dickens (#6 Charles Dickens...why didn't they just say "The Complete Works of Charles Dickens" too? Is The Little Mermaid considered not good enough so they have to list these independently?)
82. Cloud Atlas - David Mitchell (sounds boring)
83. The Color Purple - Alice Walker**** (I liked it though I liked the movie even better!!!! Whoopi Goldberg was great and so was Oprah and so was that little kid)
84. The Remains of the Day - Kazuo Ishiguro (ehhhhh why do some of these books sound so boring)
85. Madame Bovary - Gustave Flaubert**** (First I hated it but then I read some more Amazon.com reviews and then appreciated it. The way he describes feelings is so good and connects you to the book so much because instead of hating the main character you start to understand her and picture yourself in her that's pretty cool)
86. A Fine Balance - Rohinton Mistry (blaahhhh)
87. Charlotte's Web - E.B. White (I only watched the movie and tried to take an Accelerated Reader test on it and failed hahaha)
88. The Five People You Meet In Heaven - Mitch Albom (what a small little book...I enjoyed shelving it a lot)
89. The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes - Sir Arthur Conan Doyle (I wanna read it. There's TWO movies coming out, including one with Robert Downey Jr. Oh boy!!!)
90. The Faraway Tree Collection - Enid Blyton (sounds like a fantasy novel)
91. Heart of Darkness - Joseph Conrad**** (blahhhhhh this was soooo borinnnggg I skimmed some of the chapters because NOTHING HAPPENS IN THIS BOOK Apocalypse Now was a great movie)
92. The Little Prince - Antoine De Saint-Exupery (does it count if I read some selections in my French text book and watched selections of the movie SPEAKING OF WHICH that little boy who played Le Petit Prince was EXCELLENT)
93. The Wasp Factory - Iain Banks (written by the dude who lived next to the Secret Life of Bees)
94. Watership Down - Richard Adams (I saw some of the clips from the animated movie OH MY GAWD KILLER RABBITS I WANNA READ IT NOW AND WATCH THE WHOLE MOVIE and I would have too but someone checked out the book already)
95. A Confederacy of Dunces - John Kennedy Toole (haha sounds anti-establishment)
96. A Town Like Alice - Nevil Shute (I'd rather read A Town Like Niklj...that should be interesting)
97. The Three Musketeers - Alexandre Dumas (didn't even watch the movie. I think I like watching the movie before the book)
98. Hamlet - William Shakespeare (Hey little Hamlet, why are you here all by yourself? :( I still need to read you, by the way)
99. Charlie and the Chocolate Factory - Roald Dahl (I read it and liked it but couldn't get through the next one saw the movie though both of them and I liked Gene Wilder's better because the candy looked so yummy and there's that part where they step on the chicken head oh geez I think I am scarred for life but hey you're right they DID break the rules they shouldn't get anything I bought the book in San Francisco)
100. Les Miserables - Victor Hugo (didn't even see the musical yayyyy)

21/100 and a majority of it was for class, although that isn't bad know why? Because I think this was a pretty stupid list that missed a lot of books and included some random books so no one should feel bad if they haven't read some of these books because everyone shouldn't have to read a book because they are SUPPOSED TO no go read what you want because reading should be an activity that you do to enrich yourself and to entertain yourself, not to prove anything to anyone. Now where's a movie list. I should do that one next.

They freaking should've done authors or something.

Tagged by [info]caalan

Rules:

1. People who have been tagged must write their answers on their blog and replace any question that they dislike with a new, original question.

2. Tag eight people. Don't refuse to do that. Don't tag who tagged you.

Whoever wants to do this, do it. I ain't takin' no lip from no meme :p

1. What superhero power would you love to have and why?

I want the power to find anything anywhere at any time. Like, if I need to find my keys, I'd know where to find it. If I need to find a missing girl in the woods somewhere in Hoboken (does Hoboken have woods?) then I'd find her. If I need to find where extraterrestrial life is in the universe, just call me. That would be AWESOME.

2. How do you style your hair?
Down, straight. (Meaning: I don't style my hair.) I also put it up in a ponytail for fun variety!

3. What are you wearing now?
A turquoise t-shirt and black pants.

4. What's your most favorite place to visit in the world?
Disneyland! There's no place in the world like it. (Not even Disneyland Paris, Hong Kong Disneyland, or Tokyo Disneyland.)

5. The best thing to happen to you as of late?
Got straight As in the classes that I loved last quarter. If I'd gotten anything less, I'd be devastated and not just because I'm Asian. I freaking loved my classes last quarter and hope I gave the teachers the hard work they deserved from me.

6. What is one word you would use to describe yourself?
Weird. No, people say that all the time, but I truly think that if you asked anyone, they'd say I'm weird. BUT LOVEABLE hahahahhaa.

7. What's your current fandom/obsession/addiction?
iCarly, musicals, Depeche Mode, Legend of the Seeker, and other random things

8. What's the last thing you ate today?
Home-made ice cream cake. Well, cake upon soggy ice cream. It was a failed experiment by my friends and I. It tasted good though.

9. What calms you?
'80s music and Enya. Heck yeah.

10. What web sites do you visit when you go online?
LiveJournal, Xanga, e-mail, AOL Homepage, Explosm, Something Awful Forums

11. What's the last thing you bought?
Sin Bala for dinner. My first time! I felt like an average teenage Asian girl, tee hee. Freaking noodles were hoooot. I was holding my chest like "Oh deary me!" and when I asked the waiter for more water, he had a big grin on his face and said, "Spicy, huh!" And I was like "*COUGH WHEEZE*

12. What are you listening to now?
The theme song to Dirty Jobs.

13. What do you think about before you go to bed?
I think about the day and what I was frustrated or elated about that day. Then I think about my crushes :B

14. What was the last CD(s) you "bought"?
For Christmas I got a whole mess load, including stuff from Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark, Berlin, and INXS.

15. What is your favourite weather and why?
Rain 'cause it happens so infrequently and makes everything look pretty when it clears up! Also, it makes a nice sound.

16. If you could play any musical instrument, which one would you play?
The synthesizer. Dude, have you seen keyboard players' hands? They're beautiful!

17. Anything exciting as of late?
Wasn't this asked already? Uh, I did a photoshoot with my friends at the Norton Simon museum and it was a great time.

18. If you could do anything at all today, money and time not an issue, what would you do?
I'd go to Disneyland Paris, fo' sho! That's the whole reason I took four years of French. Seriously.

19. What was the last concert you went to?
John Mayer in December at the Nokia Theater. He was REALLY good. I put videos that I took up on YouTube and got my account permanently disabled :P

Hooray [Feb. 9th, 2009|12:00 am]
Something to distract me from studying for midterms.

Music Meme
1. Reply to this post and I'll assign you a letter.
2. List (and upload, if you feel like it) 5 songs that start with that letter.
3. Post them to your journal with these instructions.

[info]ningen_demonai  gave me the letter N!

I'm gonna do 15 'cause I'm a rebel and 'cause I think that would be a more accurate sampling of my musical tastes ('cause that's why I do these music memes for really). All songs are linked to their music video equivalent on YouTube. So you can enjoy too. 'Cause you will. And I linked all of them to their high quality versions. And I bought all these songs legally so I don't feel bad for linking these songs. Yeah.

1. Need You Tonight - INXS (Michael Hutchence was hooooooot)
2. Neon - John Mayer (WHO WON A GRAMMY TONIGHT FOR "SAY" YEAHHHHHHHHH!)
3. Never - Heart (You can't help but to be jealous at Ann Wilson's vocals and Nancy Wilson's guitar prowess)
4. Neverending Story - Limahl (The video is tres cheesy and so is the song, but it's uplifting)
5. Never Gonna Give You Up - Rick Roll Astley (totally downloaded this before Rick Rolling became popular. Honest.)
6. Never Let Me Down Again - Depeche Mode (OMG YouTube is becoming absolutely useless for finding official music videos. On another note, I have four different official versions of this song. Whoo hoo.)
7. Never Tear Us Apart - INXS (Everybody should appreciate Michael Hutchence's vocals and not how he died)
8. New Dress - Depeche Mode (Dave Gahan + Stage = Smex)
9. New Religion - Duran Duran (I love the keyboards)
10. Not For Me - Backstreet Boys (NO SHAME)
11. No More Words- Berlin (the music video is awesome and Terri Nunn still looks awesome)
12. Nobody's Diary - Yaz (Freaking catchy and Alison Moyet's smoky vocals are a real kick)
13. Normal Battle - Final Fantasy X OST (I would listen to this song over and over again...no lie. I think it's the best battle theme ever.)
14. Notes.../Prima Donna - Phantom of the Opera OBCR (I have two official versions of this song--the movie and the Broadway cast haha)
15. Now We Are Free - Lisa Gerrard and Hans Zimmer This song is simply transcendent...it far surpasses the word "song"

WHEE! I hope you like some of these songs too ('cause right now I don't know anybody who does ;-;).

Solicitation [Jan. 29th, 2009|04:01 pm]
I need to do a social critique for my final in art. I have to make a video and back it up with facts.

I don't like heavy subjects, so does anyone have any ideas? With stuff I could possibly back it up with?

Examples include: excess in advertisement, people texting over talking (what I did last quarter), or overreliance on technology.

But FACTS. F:WEORIJWEORJ WHAT THE HEEEEEEEEWWWW?!?!?!??!

Please help ;-;

Oh man....reading the story about the man whose whole family died after a jet plane crashed into their house is heart-wrenching...just imagine you're doing you're own thing at your house like normal and then all of a sudden it's over because something from the sky plummeted into your house. I fear this like, every day. When I heard a gunshot around my house, I was so scared because I imagined that somebody shot their gun in the air and that the bullet would come plunging down into my house, past roof, and into me.

Can't take life for granted. My heart goes out to Dong Yun Yoon and the rest of his family. I really admire his attitude about the whole thing and my only wish is that if something that bad ever happened to me, I have as much strength as he does to get through it.

I found this cool game called Alter Ego.

Basically, it's a choose your own game where you go through life.

In my life I:

-Turned down big opportunities for money
-Turned down big opportunities for love
-Got into a relationship at middle age with a man named Mark who had a fifteen year old son from a previous marriage
-Started doing it with Mark when I was old
-Became a cougar and did it with a college man after meeting him at a laundromat
-Ran away from playing Doctor with a little boy who demanded I take off my clothes and lay down
-Graduated from college as an old woman
-Gained half a million dollars after going with Mark's scheme of a kiosk business
-Bought a digital camera I never used
-Ran away from two potential molesters, including my whiskey-swigging uncle
-Asked a woman if she had a dog, hear her reply no she had a cat, and then tell her that my daddy told me the restaurant in the corner cooks them
-Was replaced at my job by a younger, more attractive woman
-Died alone going shopping for presents for my friends in the street
-But hey, I was a very confident although aggressive person who was very sociable and had a great family life in usually perfect health!

Oh yeah. I lived a full life. Except the end. Got dammit, that's sucky.

Excellent

Last night's episode of South Park (which can be viewed on www.southparkstudios.com) was the perfect antidote to this horrid election season. I now feel a certain peace after watching it because nothing has truly been funny or nonpartisan for awhile. Go watch "About Last Night..." It's a breath of fresh air.

And that caps it for my entries dealing with the election. The end.

Agh Help!

I need ideas for a Flashmob. A flashmob is when people get together and do something outrageous to the surprise of unsuspecting passerbys. This is an example of a flashmob: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jwMj3PJDxuo We are going to record the reactions of the people and stuff, so it has to be something reactive.

Here are my ideas so far:

1) Pretend we smell something really bad/don't want to inhale something toxic
2) Pretend there's an earthquake or something

Yeah, man. I'm really hard-hit up for ideas especially when I see so many other awesome flashmobs that people have already thought up. What are your ideas?
